Digital Dreams- Transform a rural school in India

The closure of schools due to the global pandemic has severely affected education world-over. According to UNESCO, around 320 million Indian students have been affected by the shutdown of schools and about 84% of them are from the rural sectors. While private schools begun to cope up with the new normal (smart classrooms and e-learning), it was difficult for the government schools to adopt the same, especially in rural areas, resulting in millions of children losing learning of almost one academic year. According to Forbes India, only 9% of rural India has access to internet, this makes it more challenging for them to adapt to the new way of learning and delivery of education. Requisite digital infrastructure and connectivity are urgent needs to ensure students in rural India don’t drop out of school and to create a sustainable ecosystem for their quality education.

Dream School Foundation (DSF - http://www.dsfindia.org/) ) is an NGO which works towards ensuring that all children, irrespective of their socio-economic background, have access to quality education and opportunities for holistic development. Through this project DSF will provide government schools in rural India with digital infrastructure (digital screens, internet access, dongles, computer etc) and access to curriculum-based learning content designed by them, in addition to resources available online. This will contribute towards getting students back to school and have a fair chance at coping with the gaps the pandemic has created.

This project is a small step towards revolutionizing the delivery of education in rural schools and give them equal access to facilities enjoyed by their economically privileged urban counterparts. It will make classes more engaging through multimedia, provide access to quality learning material and open new worlds through the internet, and help teachers make their delivery immersive and impactful.
