Disaster Relief

Overflowing reservoirs, flooding cities have displaced thousands. With government machineries being unable to fully manage the tragedy, the army, the navy and the NDRF are helping with the situation. Citizens have also stepped in to support those deeply affected by donating in-kind or by volunteering on-ground.

Bhumi, along with a consortium of non-profit organisations and individuals has been working for the immediate relief of flood affected individuals. Since the tragedy struck, our volunteers have been collecting relief funds to contribute effectively to needs. We have been careful about avoiding duplicated efforts of the government or other organisations and only supplementing existing efforts.

The money will be used for the immediate relief for shelter homes, schools, and those displaced into relief camps and temporary shelters. We shall be providing basic necessities such as food, clothing, mats, and blankets. There is also a requirement to provide clean drinking water and take measures to prevent the spread of water and mosquito borne communicable diseases.

Work in the Past:

In 2015, when Chennai was struck by floods, Bhumi mobilised support to build homes in Thiruvallur district, procured materials like school bags and uniform to enable children to go back to school, and refurbished severely affected shelter homes/orphanages.
