Distribute Fruit & Timber Plants in the Gaja Cyclone Affected Villages

A lot of high value trees in the area affected by the Gaja Cyclone were severely damaged, hence, creating a huge financial problem for their owners. If we distribute fruit and timber trees amongst the affected people, they will be able to recover from the economic deficit faster.

And most importantly, by distributing plants, all the peoples shall get relief from the ill-effects of Gaja cyclone. The peoples have enough water facility in their area, so the tree plantation process should be in an easy and successful way.

Our organization is Gandhi Peace Keeping Centre, Nagai Road, Thiruthuraipoondi is a registered society under Tamilnadu society Registration Act 27 of 1975 with registration number 1171992, dated 21.01.1992. We are training farmers on organic agriculture, environmental awareness, tree planting, help SH groups and small farmers, silt removal reclamation of land, tank renovation and educational tour for farmers.

We are currently helping out the people affected by Cyclone Gaja. ONGC and Kanyakumari Vivekananda Kendra are distributing the necessary material amongst the affected, and we are doing a CPCL service area in P.Panangudi, M.P.Panangudi, S.Panangudi Gopurajapuram Panchayat Nagi district in coordination with United Way of Chennai.

The beneficiaries will recover from the trauma of Cyclone Gaja, and will get some monetary respite.

Hybrid fruit, value trees will start earning them profit within three years, and the timber value trees will bring major returns in another 15 years. In the past years, this area was fully surrounded by a green environment, but due to Gaja cyclone, the green cover was damaged. Through this plant-distribution exercise, both the people and the environment will benefit.

Timber Value Plants: Teak, Mahogany, Vengai, Silver Oak, Vembu, Rosewood
