DISTRIBUTION OF FREE FOOD PACKETS AMONG DESTITUTE & ELDERLY

With the erosion of the traditional joint family system, older persons are the most affected section of the society; many of them find it very hard to adjust/adapt to changed conditions. In absence of a proper support mechanism in the Old Age, today, older persons living in slum areas & resettlement colonies are forced to live in the most disadvantaged circumstances. Due to poor financial status, older persons live a life devoid of basic quality of life.

Thousands of older persons in Delhi-NCR live in slums, where even common health-related diseases turn into major health hazards simply due to the non-availability of proper and nutritious food, ignoring initial symptoms of diseases, and being careless toward healthcare-related needs of older persons.

In slum areas and resettlement colonies, the majority of older persons live in BPL (below poverty line) families, where earning members limited income to even feed their families properly. In these families, the basic healthcare needs of older persons remained unaddressed.

Agewell proposes to initiate a program to support destitute older persons living in slums across Delhi-NCR with the objective to improve their health condition by providing them with nutritious and healthy food supplements and other useful products.

Objectives: 

• To increase the immunity of destitute elderly and help them improve their health condition
•  To provide nutritious, healthy food supplements and other useful products to needy elderly
• To sensitize the elderly, their family members, caregivers and others towards healthcare needs and requirements in old age
• To create awareness in the society about the needs & rights of older persons

Agewell volunteers will survey the most populated slum clusters for the project, with the objective to reach out to the neediest elderly destitute older persons per month and extend them a helping hand to improve their quality of life. Agewell

Foundation will distribute nutritious, healthy food supplements and other useful products to needy elderly.

The project will ensure better health conditions and quality of life for beneficiaries in long run. At the same time, their family members will also be more careful towards their elderly family members.
