Donate a blanket and save a life this winter

With increase in the pace of climate change, the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events have also increased. According to a Lancet study, over seven lakh yearly deaths are related to abnormal temperatures in India. In fact, in India, the number of deaths per year linked with abnormal cold temperatures is 6,55,600 while the number of deaths associated with high temperatures is 83,700. In all north Indian states that witness extreme winters, with temperatures falling below the freezing point, year after year schools are forced to remain shut, trains are delayed or rescheduled, etc. The worst affected are the homeless. Given the inadequacy and deplorable conditions in night shelters, taking to the streets even in extreme cold is the only choice for many people.

HHCT has over the years, developed an all India network of volunteers who seek out and distribute blankets to the most needy segments of the society. Last year, we distributed over 10,000 blankets to the homeless in streets of different towns and cities, to the adivasi villages in forests of Tripura, Odisha, Mizoram, Assam and to people living in informal hutments in the slums of Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Guwahati, Patna and other towns. This year too HHCT will buy blankets straight from manufacturers in Punjab and Haryana and distribute them through it's network of youth volunteers drawn from the National Youth Project, across the country.

Through this campaign, HHCT aims to provide 25,000 blankets to people living on the streets during harsh winters Our annual blanket distribution drives which start in November, have been instrumental in providing warmth to thousands of impoverished people every year and has been the only covering which has kept many of them away from death. This year too we aim to create a significant impact by channeling the valuable donations of our supporters to directly saving lives. A donation as little as Rs.200 can save a life.
