Organ failure rate in India is high with requirement of kidneys alone standing at 175 per million population and transplantation rate of only 5.7 per million. The need for organ transplantation is increasing substantially and low donation rates are attributed to a variety of factors and lack of awareness on deceased organ donation in India is considered to be one of the primary reasons. A variety of efforts are underway to address these factors to close the growing gap between the organs needed and those available for transplantation.

MOHAN Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, in its journey of 19 years has been successful in saving more than 3500 precious lives by providing life-saving organs and in creating a feel good factor about organ donation through its relentless efforts. It is also mentoring Non-Governmental Organization for the State Government Cadaver Transplantation Programs in more than 5 states and also SAARC nations. Our mission is to ensure that every Indian that is suffering from end-stage organ failure be provided with the gift of a “New lease of Life”, through a lifesaving organ transplant.

MOHAN has used every possible tool, methodology, process and path to actively engage community, civil society, religious leaders, policy makers and government at large and has paved a path for deceased organ donation in India. In a country that had almost no donations happening 17 years back, deceased organ donation rate doubled in two years to 0.50 per million population in 2015 from 0.18 in 2012, this is a significant achievement by a non-profit. In 2016, MOHAN has organized 390 public education programs impacting 1,90,000 people, trained 323 transplant coordinators, 15 CMEs/workshops benefiting 1878 healthcare professionals.
