Drinking Water Supply Program for Tribal

Baghamari village is inhabited by 45 tribal and poor families of Luhamunda Gram Panchayat of Kishorenagar block in the district of Angul of Odisha state. The people are mainly daily wage earners and collectors of forest produce. They have little rainfed agricultural land which provides paddy for 1 to 3 months to each family. Except for 2, the rest of the families are below the poverty line. 

Drinking water is one of the biggest problems in the village. They depend upon one tube well constructed by the Government Department. The water is acute in summer which makes the people divide water collected from the borewell and force them to collect water from the nearest nalas.

Based on the above issue we have constructed one bore well and pipe water supply system for every 45 families. But we supply water to 25 families because of less water available in the bore well. We propose to construct another bore well to feed the other 20 families.

·        We have done the following activities with the support of Consulate General of Germany, Kolkata;

·        Construction of bore well for 350 feet depth with water lifting motor

·        Installation of Solar system for  lifting water

·        Water storage of 5000 litres with steel stand

·        Supply of water at the door step of each individual house hold with two hundred litres of water container

·        Supply of water to houses with connecting pipe and tap

·        Fensing around the solar system and water pump/tank

We need to install another bore well at another place which will provide additional water to 20 families

We will supply clean and sufficient drinking water to 20 tribal and poor families of Baghamari village under Angul district of Odisha state. It will meet the crisis of drinking water 6-7 months a year, thereby helping poor people to reduce time and energy and water-borne diseases.
