“My parents were leprosy patients, and I grew up in a leprosy colony. At times, we didn’t have a grain of rice in our home and no money for medication, either. We had been thrown out of cities and villages for no fault of ours. Today I have just one objective in life to help leprosy survivors live a decent life and I will keep serving them till my last breath”, shares Durga Lal of Hope Welfare Trust.
The NGO today stands as the only hope for over 100 leprosy patients who neither have a means to survive nor resources to get medication.
Durga Lal is in dire need of funds to keep his work going. Help Hope Welfare Trust in providing food and essential medicines to leprosy survivors. Donate generously.

Harsh reality of forgotten survivors
Leprosy is often seen as a curse, rather than being recognised for what it actually is – a curable bacterial infection. “Their limbs have withered away. They cannot even eat food on their own. How can I leave these survivors on the streets? Each day, they live in pain and suffering and one day they succumb to it. They don't even have a roof above their heads. They don't have bandages to cover their wounds. Their wounds become infested with flies” Durga Lal says.
A life filled with stigma and suffering
Survivors are denied even basic needs as they are not given jobs, they are shunned from public places, and they live in constant fear of rejection. This exclusion worsens their suffering, leaving them vulnerable and marginalised.
Today Durga Lal and his Hope Welfare Trust are the only hope for over 100 leprosy survivors. Without assistance life would become even more painful for these elderly. Your donation can go a long way in ensuring continued support. Donate now.

Listen to the story of a leprosy survivor and their hardship.
Following his leprosy diagnosis, Dwarka and his wife migrated to Varanasi many years ago in search of a new life after losing their old one. Faced with rejection at every turn, even a leprosy colony turned them away, forcing them to sleep with the sky as their roof.
Finally building a meager settlement under a bridge, the old couple survived on whatever they could earn from begging on the streets. Their life is made all the more difficult as a result of Dwarka's disfigured face and his beloved wife's blindness.
When Hope Welfare Foundation discovered them in such a miserable state, we took steps to ease their living conditions, including providing dry rations for their sustenance. But we need your help to do more for them!
Just like Dwarka, innumerable people all over India suffer from no fault of their own. Driven by stigma and superstition, leprosy survivors are denied the most basic requirements of life. But together, we can change their fate. Please help us provide leprosy survivors the materials and support they need to live with dignity.
Join us to save these poor souls from a wretched existence. Donate now and save a life.
