Dhapu lives with her family in a small hamlet called Bhopa Ji Ki Dhani, in Mandala Khurd. Her family's primary source of income is their small piece of land that they cultivate for a living. The agricultural yield is mostly inadequate as it depends on rains. To make the two ends meet, **Dhapu's father also works as a daily wage laborer. He manages to earn a monthly income of Rs 1,000 which barely suffices to provide for the necessities of the family. ****Dhapu mostly spends her time tending to her siblings or helping her mother with household chores.** Education is a luxury and is mostly given to the boys in the community. Girls are not encouraged to go to school or study. Due to limited resources, Dhapu's parents could not send her to school. Once they **met a teacher from GRAVIS who told them about their education program.** Dhapu's parents were happy to know that their daughter can attend school free of cost. Dhapu started attending classes at GRAVIS quite regularly with 70% of attendance. She is a well-behaved child who respectfully talks to her teacher and classmates. She likes to read Hindi and enjoys the storytelling session held by the class teacher. She also actively plays with her friends at school. **Dhapu wants to join the police service after growing up, to serve the society.** Your donation can make a girl child's dream come true. **You can donate with confidence because every program on our platform is [GIVEASSURED](https://www.giveindia.org/giveassured).**

About The Program

Gramin Vikas Vigyan Samiti (GRAVIS) is committed to educate the girl children in Rajasthan. It promotes enrollment of girls in the villages for which it sets up schools in different villages and later hands them over to the government or the village development committee to run. Currently, the NGO supports 48 co-education schools in different parts of Rajasthan. About 40% of the students in these schools are girls. Children studying in Grade I to V (up to 12 years of age) are chosen for this initiative. Their centers are located in Pali, Dabri, Menu KI Gagadi, Bhikum Kor, Jelu, Bada Kotecha in the Udaipur district of Rajasthan. Each village has a village development committee, which is unanimously elected village body. It consists of representatives from all sections of society. The committee selects beneficiaries with assistance from the teachers at the local schools. The chosen beneficiaries are taught in these schools and are also provided with the educational materials.

About The NGO

GRAVIS works in the States of Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh. Currently, GRAVIS' interventions support about 1.3 million people living in over 1,500 remote villages. The organisation believes in participatory community development that blends traditional knowledge and modern sciences and that promotes equality. education is one of the main pillars of sustainable development as it allows future generations' access to new ideas and resources. GRAVIS has been a strong proponent of education for the poor of the Thar Desert and has hopes of giving children a brighter and financially secure future. Till date, 98 schools with more than 7,000 students have been set up by GRAVIS and many of them are now run by village communities independently. These schools are often located in the areas of villages where no government school existed, and some provide midday meals for students. Once these schools are well established, GRAVIS hands over the administration to the local Village Development Committee or the state school system. GRAVIS donates bicycles to students who wish to attend secondary schools. This support focuses on female students who have to date been given 230 bicycles.GRAVIS has recently constructed a new girls hostel building in one of its centers where the girls will stay to receive middle and high school education. The center can accommodate up to 16 girls, who live there and participate in many activities.
