In India there are over 1100 identified red light areas that house about 300,000 brothels. Almost 5 million children live with their mothers here, where life is destined for abuse and exploitation. They face the harsh reality of becoming victims of commercial sexual exploitation, as they have almost no opportunities outside their parent’s world.

Additionally thousands of minors get trafficked into these areas from rural India thinking they are being taken to work in the cities and would finally be able to support their families. Sadly they get sold into a life of horror. Currently, there are over 1.3 million minors who are forced victims of commercial sexual exploitation. 

The Challenge:

Children living in red light areas can only hope to find a better life if they get a lot of support and proper education. You and I cannot even imagine the challenges they face on a daily basis. Children from red light areas do not easily get admissions in schools. They face ridicule, lack support at home for their studies, leading to dropout, and very easily follow their parent's life of abuse and exploitation. 

The Solution:

We support these children by providing these children with after school tuitions and activities, proper nutrition, computer training programs, spoken English training, and football coaching.

At Purnata, every child is given a nurturing environment needed for them to heal from their traumatic experiences, while enabling them to thrive in their academics.
