Education for Children in Need in Tamil Nadu

The Londor begging community consists of 400 people, 270 of them children. These children are often forced into begging by their parents and face a life of poverty, with no access to education or the chance of proper employment when they’re older. There is a lot of alcohol abuse and domestic violence within the community and the children suffer because they have no way out. Young girls face the threat of child marriage from as young as 13 years old and children often start drinking themselves because they know no different. They live in a very unsafe environment where personal development is not possible, due to lack of opportunity, stimulation and inspiration.

We aim to give the children of the Londor community a future to believe in. We make sure that the children get the best education possible and avoid the dangers of begging in the streets and at temple. By making sure that the children receive the right kind of care, food, and education, we hope to end the cycle of poverty that they are in. We work with the community to promote healthy relationships, community wellbeing and to reduce the risk of child marriage, violence and abuse.

The project currently supports approximately 80 children who would otherwise be begging in the streets, with ambition to eventually support all children from the community . We empower the community as a whole to live healthier, more secure and stable lives, improving their overall wellbeing, employment situations and education levels.
