Focus Area: Social Upliftment of Urban Underprivileged Through Education Vision: Mahavir Foundation Trust has been focusing on quality education of students from economically weaker sections of our society, with a strong belief that better education is the most potent way of uplifting such families and to reduce disparities in the society, leading to a better India. We currently support close to eight thousand students annually through various schemes, from street schools, going all the way up to university education. Outline of our intervention: Active and growing presence across all stages / phases of education through - 1)    Asha Deep: A Street School – Bringing education to the doorstep of children living in slums or on foot path. We are presently running 28 such centers with about 700 beneficiaries. 2)    ADMS: Students of Asha Deep get enrolled in formal school after needful basic learning. At ADMS, we provide a supplementary after school all round coaching to selected 100 children up to 8th Standard. Facilities are at par with the best private coaching centres.3)    Kayakalp: A special program for bright students from 9th to 12th std. 150+ students are given after‐school coaching along with training in personality development, communication skills, computer skills and English speaking for a holistic development of beneficiaries.4)    Open Scholarship: Merit cum need based scholarship given to students from 8th Std to Post graduate studies. It is awarded after a home visit and a detailed assessment by our volunteer members. About 4000  students benefited from this program last year. 5)    School Adoption: We have adopted 6 schools catering largely to underprivileged section of society. At adopted schools, we try to go beyond cash scholarship and engage with students through meaningful and helpful programs. 6)    Naya Savera: In January 2022, MFT launched Naya Savera, a novel program that aims to educate Ashadeep kids' mothers and elder sisters. This initiative costs around 1.5 lacs per year per centre. 7)    Marg Darshan: Comprehensive career guidance and counselling Initiative with continuous hand holding of students from 10th Std onwards. It includes vocational training as well. Mahavir Foundation Trust has been actively expanding these initiatives over last 20 years. Presently we have 120 highly committed and resourceful members who are always ready to serve.  Our Guiding Principles: o No distinction on the basis of religion, caste or gender for beneficiary selectiono Personal assessment by esteemed members before beneficiary short listing.o Continuity of support for as long as the education continues.o Ensuring that the Self‐respect of the beneficiaries is never compromised.o Zero Administrative Expense: All admin costs are met by our members. Thus every single rupee contributed goes to the beneficiaries.  Appeal: We need to partner with a large number of concerned citizens to be able to continue and expand this initiative. We, therefore, invite you to be a part of this mega effort by sponsoring underprivileged students. Sponsorship Initiative will not only enable us to provide financial assistance to our beneficiary students, it could also connect them with the sponsors who could act as guides or mentors. In cases where sponsors are unable to provide mentorship, we will assign mentors from amongst our members and volunteers.  Approximate expenses Per student per year are as follows: <ul><li>std 8th to 10th, - Rs. 5000/-</li><li>Std 11th , 12th / engg diploma/B.Com/B.Sc/BBA. - Rs 8000/-</li><li>B.E/B.Tech/MBBS/CA/CS/CMA - 15,000/-</li><li>Shining Stars - Special program for Outstanding students from standard 11th up to college - Rs. 30,000/-</li><li>Kayakalp/ADMS students - Rs. 35,000/-</li></ul> Impact: We basically cater to a large number of students from economically weaker sections of our society. We believe that ensuring quality education of students from this strata is the best way to uplift such families in the long run. Our experience suggests that even partial/limited financial assistance acts as a great motivator for these students and their parents. The overall impact will essentially enable these students to realise their inherent potential and improve the economic condition of the entire family in the long run. Thus, it will enable them to become better citizens of our society and our nation. Some of the success stories of beneficiaries: Krupa Gandhi: Her father was engaged in door to door selling of Agarbatti and his income was not sufficient to fund her education expenses. MFT supported here from 11th std onwards. In 12th Board exam, she stood 8th in Vadodara. Subsequently she completed MBA with flying colours from a reputed college and was employed by TCS.  Dharmesh Vankar: His father runs a Pedal Rickshaw and also works as casual labour. MFT started supporting his educational expenses from 8th standard onwards. At times, his academic performance was below MFT criteria, but considering special circumstances and his determination we continued our support throughout. From 11th onwards, he never looked back and went on to complete CS. He is presently working as Company Secretary in a reputed organisation. Nirav Bhute: His father is a priest in a temple and has extremely limited income. With support from MFT, he completed his Diploma Engineering Course with top rank and was employed by Alsthom. He subsequently enrolled for B.E. from M S University and got employed by L&amp;T after that. He is now regularly contributing to MFT for support of other deserving students. He also helps in assessment of new applications for scholarships by undertaking house visits on behalf of MFT. Dr. Dipali ShuklaHer father was suffering from brain tumour and the only earning member of family, her mother, had a very modest salary. It was then that MFT started supporting her education. She has completed MBBS with 1st class from Jamnagar University and is presently studying in Final Year – MD Anaesthesia in Surat. An Amazing and extra-ordinarily honest and dedicated family. During final year, her elder sister got a job and the family stopped taking assistance so that the funds could be utilized for other deserving students. Every year, her mother helps MFT by undertaking home visits for assessment of around 50 new applicants. Rozina SaherwalaThough being a bright student with strong aptitude in science, due to severe financial constraints of the family, she was planning to choose another stream. MFT not only supported her but also convinced her to pursue her passion in science stream. With her sincerity and hard work, she got 1st rank with Gold Medal in BE (EC) from SVIT, VASAD and got employed at IBM, Bangalore through campus placement.
