Emergency Medicare and Maintenance of abandoned babies run by Kalaiselvi Karunalaya

KKSS has been running Angel house babies home in Chennai for the past few years. We are one of the Specialized adoption agencies by rescuing and rehabilitating abandoned babies from various districts through District authorities. Till now hundreds of babies have been given care and protection at our Angel house with loving motherly care of caregivers and round-the-clock health care and attending to the emergency Medicare of babies under our care.

During the program implementation of baby care, we find it difficult to meet the growing needs of the day-to-day maintenance of health care and emergency needs of the babies including newborns with low birth weight, deformities and other babies. We often find that babies who are abandoned would be having dermatitis and dehydration which could turn into major sepsis in future. Also, in cases of pre-term and formula feeding, babies have low immunity which needs extra attention and care. There are a minimum of two to three babies requiring hospitalization in a neonatal ward with pediatric supervision and necessary diagnosis and treatment at specialized hospitals. This requires huge hospitalization charges in addition to routine maintenance and a caregiver's honorarium to take care of the babies. In a few instances, low birth and pre-term babies require special milk formula as prescribed by the Pediatrician up to several months of their stability. We at KKSS struggle to meet such milk feeding expenses, emergency Medicare and save the babies under our care. 

As soon as a baby is admitted at Angel house, we ensure proper medical check-ups and various tests, diagnosis is undertaken with the consultation of a Pediatrician. KKSS has been attending to the immediate Medicare, diagnosis, hospitalization and maintenance of all abandoned babies referred from all over Tamilnadu. KKSS have collaborated with Sundaram Medical Foundation for complete medical check-up and necessary treatment provided at their end. As per the Pediatric suggestion, various blood investigations, genetic tests, X-rays and scanning tests would be taken. Proper treatments and follow-ups are continued to make the babies active and healthy. We make sure all the babies are maintaining good health conditions by means of a hygienic environment, standard baby care products, trained caregivers, and periodical supervision of nurses.

KKSS wish to create an impact among the rescued babies under our care by regaining their life and creating healthy babyhood through quality Medicare, timely intervention and diagnosis of illnesses, necessary treatment and follow-up. We strive hard to raise funds to fulfil the timely requirements namely special milk formula, medicines, scans, and various tests needed at the time of hospitalization. We give below a few stories of the hospitalization of babies and their successful treatment and recovery from their illnesses due to timely intervention and action by our team.

Cases: A baby having a birth weight of 1.84kg was admitted at the Institute of Child Health for fever and diagnosed with Congenital infection (CMV positive) after treatment, the baby is on follow-up. Another baby got admitted to NICU for causes including very preterm birth at 28 weeks, having a very low birth weight of 1439 grams and got treated for the previously mentioned causes and for the risk of sepsis. Presently, a baby is admitted at the Institute of Child Health for dull activity and poor intake of milk, the baby was diagnosed with acute Meningo encephalitis, observed small PFO L-R shunt through the ECHO test and Neuro Doctor suggested taking other organic tests as the baby is having tremors sometimes. After several weeks of continuous care by our caretaker at the hospital and timely treatment by the medical team, the baby is saved now and gradually recovering from the infection.
