Empower 20 Birhor Families with Jute Craft Livelihoods in Hazaribag, Jharkhand

Help 20 Birhor families in Jharkhand move from forest-based survival work to skilled jute craft production, earning dignified and sustainable incomes.

The Birhor are among India’s Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). In Nagari village, Churchu, Hazaribagh, most families rely on collecting forest produce, making ropes from discarded cement bags, and daily wage labour — earning barely enough to survive.

This leaves women and youth without opportunities for skill development or stable income, trapping families in a cycle of poverty.

We will train 20 Birhor families in Eco-friendly Jute Craft Making and provide them with extended raw material and tool support to start earning immediately after training.

The project includes:

• 25 days of hands-on training in jute craft products such as bags, mats, and décor items
• Design improvement to create market-ready products
• Extended raw material kits for 3 months of production
• Market linkages to fairs, exhibitions, and bulk buyers
• Access to industrial sewing machines and branding tools

• Reduce dependence on forest extraction and irregular daily labour
