Story

Do you know what to do when your friend faints?

Do you know how to save a child that is choking?

Do you know how to respond to someone who has had a cardiac arrest?

Do you want to wait till a personal loss to know these?

17 lives are lost every minute in India, due to medical emergencies.

Doctors say that 3 out of every 4 victims could have been saved, if proper first response had been provided. 2,00,000 people face emergencies everyday and 80 percent of them don’t receive the crucial first response.

Emergencies can happen anywhere, at anytime and to anybody.

97% of Indian families are not prepared to face these everyday disasters, putting over 25 crores families at risk. In this context, the need of the hour is loud and clear - to empower a common man to act during an emergency until professional help arrives.

ALERT empowers a common man to act in case of an emergency and save lives with the vision of ensuring 'Right to Life'. ALERT reaches out to the general public through awareness and training programmes to fulfil the goal given to ALERT by our beloved former president Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, which is to "train one in every family in emergency care". The objective of our programme is to create a compassionate and aware society by empowering a common man with the necessary knowledge and conditioning to act during emergencies and save lives. Our audience includes people from various walks of life such as school students, college students, auto and cab drivers, security personnel, police personnel, officers of the Indian Army, housewives, corporate professionals, et al. ALERT's training programmes addresses a common man's need to learn emergency response in a holistic manner that includes medical, legal and psychological inputs. Keeping the emergency preparedness of a family at the core, ALERT's programmes not just provides knowledge transfer, but also brings about an attitudinal and behavioural change. Our outreach programmes range from flashmob, puppetry, road shows, mass campaigns to class room programmes.

To date, we have empowered over 60,000 citizens in emergency response. Every citizen who undergoes ALERT's training programme improves the emergency preparedness level of the family. In a country where pizza gets delivered faster than an ambulance, it is very significant empowerment for the person undergoing the training as well as his / her loved ones.

We have had multiple instances of positive intervention during medical emergencies reported by the citizens who have underwent ALERT's programme. There are even cases where ALERT empowered volunteers have brought victims from a motionless, breathless state into the path of recovery. Every life has an immeasurable value and every such intervention made by an ALERTed citizen is of immense value not just to the loved ones of the victims but to the society and nation at large. Such acts of compassion empowered by the knowledge and conditioning provided through ALERT's training programmes instills faith in humanity for the victims, their near ones and everyone around who witnesses them. Every citizen who undergoes ALERT's programme finds an expression for their innate compassion which turns out to be a life saving act in times of need.
