Empowering 75,000 Active Citizens as India moves toward its 75th Republic Day

The Constitution of India is the fundamental source of rights and responsibilities for all citizens. It provides pathways for our individual and collective progress. The more citizens understand its provisions and methods, the better they can address issues and improve their lives and communities.  This belief has fueled our intent to reach out to 2,00,000 citizens under the Constitution Scale Up Project initiated in 2021.

This year, as we move towards our 75th Republic Day, we are making all efforts to reach out to 75,000 citizens and fulfil our commitment on this historic occasion.   

We plan to train more than 150 Citizen Champions from different regions of the country in 2022. The training called ‘Constitution for Citizen Action’ imparts knowledge of constitutional and legal provisions. It develops skills to work on individual and community issues while upholding constitutional values. It provides tools and materials so that Citizen Champions can further build the capabilities of more citizens. Alongside, we are building an online platform through which, the Constitution Champions and citizens, can access resources and support for continued learning and action.

150 Constitution Champions will reach out to and empower 75,000 citizens during the course of this project. This will result in betterment on a wide variety of issues in personal and community spaces. In some situations, it could result in better access to entitlements like ration, widow pension or good roads and schools. In other situations, it could mean standing up against personal abuse or unequal treatment. In still others, it could mean mobilising people for awareness and education or participation in panchayats.

The impact that these Constitution Champions will create is far beyond the life of the project, this empowerment will last forever.
