Story
📚 A Story of Hope from the Heart of Basti (Uttar Pradesh)

In the quiet village lanes of Basti, Uttar Pradesh, school bells ring — but not all children can answer them. Many are burdened by poverty, gender inequality, and lack of access to quality education. Despite this, their eyes still carry dreams — of becoming doctors, teachers, artists, leaders.

Meet Laxmi an 6-year-old from a Dalit family in rural Basti. Her parents are daily wage laborers. Until last year, she had never held a storybook. She struggled to write her name and could barely speak a full sentence in Hindi. School was a faraway concept.

But her life changed when Abhisek, a passionate Utthan Fellow, began working in her village. Through the Utthan Fellowship, Abhisek runs daily learning circles with local children. He brings colors, books, songs, and, most importantly — belief. Within months, Sakshi began to read aloud. She now teaches her younger brother the alphabet. Her confidence is blooming.

There are hundreds of Laxmi in Basti — bright minds waiting for a spark. And that spark is YOU.
