Empowering high school students to make informed Career decisions

Should one’s socio-economic background decide the places they could go, the dreams they could pursue, and the life they could lead?

For many young people in India’s rural districts, this remains a harsh reality. Not because they lack talent or determination, but because their dreams are limited by the options they are aware of and a lack of awareness of the rapidly evolving opportunities in the 21st-century.

Awareness is the real bridge between realising potential and limiting possibilities. Without knowing what is out there, even the most hardworking student ends up pursuing a path that does not help them become ready for the future, especially in a technology driven, rapidly evolving job market.

In Narayanpet district of Telangana, high school students face this struggle daily. With little guidance, they either make narrow career choices or remain undecided until it is too late. This not only limits their potential but also keeps families stuck in the cycle of poverty, generation after generation.

Take the story of Lakshmi (name changed), a bright 10th grader from a nearby district. She always enjoyed studying science but had never thought about careers beyond being "Doctor or Nurse" she had seen around her. During our workshop, she discovered her deep interest in Botany and began exploring a career in Horticulture. With just a little guidance, her curiosity bloomed into a new passion. One that can open doors to sustainable livelihoods and innovation in agriculture. Taking inspiration from our early successes at small scale providing career guidance in individual school, we are setting a bold ambition to scale our mission to influence thousands of students in Narayanpet district.

Our Mission in Narayanpet for current academic year:

We are launching a Career Awareness and Guidance Program to reach 3,200 high school students (52% girls) across the district. We are very glad to receive the support of the "District Collector" and "District Education Officer" to scale up our intervention for the entire district. Through interactive workshops, engaging content and self-exploration resources we help students explore careers that go far beyond the few they currently know. We also guide students about emerging careers, related pathways and mentor them to create career goals and long term plans.

And we know it works—because we’ve already reached 5,000+ students in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana:

· 80%+ students walked away with clarity on careers and courses after Grade 10.

· 50%+ students chose STEM careers—not just engineering or medicine, but fields like Aviation, Agriculture, Horticulture, Microbiology, Pharmacy, and Physics.

· The number of career choices doubled indicating the increase in breadth of awareness about career possibilities.

· 🚌 Logistics & admin costs – making sure we can reach even the remotest schools

A low cost yet efficient model, program is implemented at per student cost of INR 215.
