Enhancing the lives of 100 HIV infected & 100 HIV affected(Orphans), children’s education & health in Cuddalore district,Tamilnadu.

In the Cuddalore district of Tamilnadu, there is a prevalence of HIV infected and affected children. Children who are infected with HIV/AIDS face a lot of biases every day from their own family, neighbours, schools and even from their own friends.

Children affected by HIV are predominantly orphans(single/double)due to their parents' status. The common issues they face are poverty and lack of proper education, health, food, shelter and proper clothing.

These children are forced to drop out of school, indulge in child labor, face child trafficking, sexual exploitation, drug abuse, inducement in illegal activities, stigma & discrimination,l ack of psycho –socio – economic support, lagging ART drug adherence, and malnutrition. They suffer both mentally and physically without the hope of a promising future.

Since 2002, CDS+ is engaged in providing treatment,care and support to PLHIV’s(consisting of women and children). The primary target people are children who are infected / affected by HIV/AIDS .

For this proposal, CDS+ aims at attempting the following action:

The beneficiaries are 100 infected & 100 affected HIV/AIDS children.

Primary action is providing educational and nutritional support.

Through educational support, the children who are school dropouts shall be re-enrolled into schools.They will be provided with all necessary study material such as school uniform, books, bags, slippers etc. Apart from that, they will also be provided with evening tuitions, life skills education, technical and computer education.

Evening tution centres will be opened and these children will be provided tuitions wherein they will be made to complete their school homework, will be provided life skill training and/or playtime, followed by proper nutrition.

They will also be provided with health insurance.

Overall CDS+ aims at Enhancing 100 HIV infected & 100 HIV affected childrens education & health in cuddalore district,Tamilnadu.

The impact of the project will be:

• School drop-outs will be re-enrolled into schools and will be provided with educational materials like uniforms, books, bags and slipper

 Children will feel confident to face life challenges with reduction in their mental stress level

 Education will improve through evening tution classes.

 Children physical health improved due to nutrition support

 Children will avail free health insurance.

 Child labor, child trafficking, sexual abuse and sexual exploitation among these children will remarkably decrease

 Cases of discrimination will be reduced.

They will study, live like normal children.
