Enrich a Dalit child's life through education

Dalits were traditionally regarded as untouchables owing to their low position in the caste system. Even today, around 37% of Dalits survive on less than $2 a day and 45% are illiterate.

Weak economic conditions and discrimination forces most children from Dalit families to abandon their education.

This project provides financial help to children from poor Dalit families and the chance to receive a real education. We are running informal learning centres at various places where children are taught and given counselling to prepare them for mainstream schools.

We give parents advice and ensure that children live in a healthy, encouraging environment which keeps them motivated to attend school regularly. Also vocational training is provided to help boost their self-confidence in the face of discrimination.

This project aims to work with 450 Dalit children who don’t attend school and pave the way for mainstream education.
