Story

Addressing Sustainable Development Goals by The Satsang Foundation

There is an urgent need to address climate change, pollution, deforestation, and biodiversity loss.

The Satsang Foundation works towards protecting ecosystems, promoting sustainable practices, and raising environmental awareness through partnerships with communities, governments, and corporations. These initiatives support conservation, water management, waste reduction, and education, empowering individuals to act for a healthier planet and a more sustainable future.

By promoting tree planting, soil and water conservation, these projects contribute to combating climate change and protecting terrestrial ecosystems. The Foundation’s initiatives in some form connect with almost all SDGs, helping to remove poverty (UN SDG #1), prevent hunger (#2), promoting health & well-being (#3), improving lives of women (#5), ensuring clean water availability (#6), providing economic opportunities (#8), reducing inequality (#10), creating sustainable communities (#11) with responsible consumption and production (#12), through direct climate action (#13), nurturing life below water (#14) and life on land (#15), through community-private-government partnerships for the Goals (#17)

MyTree Project

“The act of planting a tree and taking care of its growth establishes an inner connection with nature. Understanding this inner connection results in our personal growth.” – Sri M

MyTree fosters a one-to-one friendship with nature, involving various groups in planting indigenous trees and preserving ecosystems. More than 71,000 trees have been planted so far.

Key Differentiators of MyTree

Lifecycle Management: The MyTree Project ensures the protection and management of trees from planting to maturity, fostering individual responsibility and relationships between participants and trees.

Community campaigns like "Each One, Plant Two" and "I Grow My Greens" encourage individuals to take charge of their own environment and nutrition sources.

Satsang Jal Seva Sangatan

“Water is the essence of life. Great civilizations like Mohenjo-daro collapsed with the dwindling and later complete cessation of water. The great rivers that flow in India keep us alive but the ground water is running out fast. It is our sacred responsibility and duty to sustain water. Satsang Jal Seva Sangatan is an initiative to conserve the divine element of ‘Apas’ so that the ‘Abhisheka’ of living beings is sustained.” – Sri M

The SJSS, initiated by The Satsang Foundation, aims to make Indian cities self-sufficient in water needs. It encourages reduced water consumption and groundwater recharge. SJSS projects have created over 41 million litres of water capacity in various locations including Bengaluru, Delhi, and Hyderabad.

Projects include rainwater harvesting, percolation wells, pond creation, underground storage tanks, and tree plantation.

SJSS collaborates nationally with organizations to create locally relevant projects.

MyBhoomi Project

MyBhoomi is an initiative to reduce pollutants in India's urban and rural environments through direct action and community influence.

Efforts focus on removing plastic waste. Volunteers organize clean-up drives, such as plogging in Nashik where 160 volunteers covered 10 kilometers, collecting plastic and dry waste.

MyBhoomi partners with organizations to engage school students in recycling efforts, sensitizing 2,700 students at several schools to collect dry plastic for recycling.

River Rejuvenation

The Godavari, India's second-largest river, is presently seasonal.

The 'Aviral Godavari Mission' aims to restore its perennial flow by greening Brahmagiri, enhancing water conservation, rainwater harvesting, and groundwater recharge. The project's goal is uninterrupted water flow for all dependent life forms.

Phase 1, planned before Nashik Kumbh (2027), includes restoring and creating water bodies, building boulder dams for groundwater recharge, reforesting to restore ecology, cleaning water bodies, promoting rainwater harvesting, encouraging community ownership, and collaborating with government and NGOs.

The Satsang Foundation’s core environment initiatives – MyTree, Satsang Jal Seva Sangatan, MyBhoomi and River Rejuvenation projects require consistent support and contributions from conscientious individuals and institutions.

Please donate generously for creating and contributing towards a safe and healthy environment for us and our future.
