Establishment of Fisheries Workforce Skill Development Academy

Fisheries and aquaculture are important sources of food, nutrition, employment and income in India. The sector provides livelihood to about 16 million fishers and fish farmers at the primary level and almost twice the number along the value chain. The work of marine fishermen is considered one of the most dangerous and life-threatening professions all over the world. There are some common features of the fishing occupation, such as exposure to cold, wind, rough seas, substantial participation of physical effort, frequency of injuries during work, unpredictability and abruptness of threats, equipment failure, everyday psychological stress, and constant economic pressure. In this regard, we aim to establish a skill development academy exclusively for the fisher community for them to provide an alternate livelihood for their economic security.

• Establish a state-of-art system for innovation and development of technologies in aquaculture to support sustainable development and growth of the aquaculture industry.
• Raise resource efficiency and sustainability for applied research and services through cooperation to develop innovations into translational knowledge in the area of aquaculture.
• Support safety, environmental sustainability and manpower productivity by educating and training manpower at the National level in aquaculture standards and best practices for better farm operation, biosecurity and environmental sustainability.

1. The scientific intervention for the adoption of Aquaculture Technologies would help to formulate the standard management practices for shrimp and fish farming as an alternative livelihood for the fishers.

2. Cost-effective culture systems available with the executing institute would serve as a working model for Technology dissemination.

3. A new era of zero water exchange technology in shrimp and fish farming would be evolved by the implementation of this project

4. Aggregation of Fishermen at different horizons for training at the National level Feed development & performance would pave a way for Smart Aquaculture hub development 

5. Customised training, certification programme, seminar & workshop on aquaculture Technologies in terms of water, soil and animal growth will be availed for the improvement of the aquaculture sector.
