Meet 13-year-old Shanti (name changed): Her father works irregular jobs on farms, bringing in a meagre income whenever he can, while her mother suffers from ongoing health issues—just like many mothers in her community. With a household income of less than ₹100 per day, Shanti’s parents are unable to afford proper meals for her growing body. Shanti is one of the countless girls in Jharkhand who are malnourished, a condition that is stunting her physical and mental development.

The situation in Jharkhand’s tribal areas is dire, with many children, like Shanti, facing a grim future due to the lack of access to basic nutrition and healthcare. 73% of the rural population lacks access to essential facilities, leading to widespread malnutrition, especially among young girls. 67% of adolescent girls aged 15-19 in the state suffer from anaemia, while 39.6% of children under five experience stunted growth—a sign of chronic malnutrition that hinders their ability to thrive both mentally and physically.

Aahan Foundation is working tirelessly to break this cycle of malnutrition. We conduct nutritional assessments and support diagnostic tests, while also providing nutrient-dense food to children like Shanti and young athletes. Our aim is to improve their overall health, helping them grow stronger and healthier, so they can focus on their education and future.
