Story

The COVID-19, neocorona virus places an unprecedented challenge on humanity. While the world races to develop vaccines and treatment, governments and hospitals race to increase treatment capacity, we can help flatten and delay the peak, so we reduce its potential impact

Dakshas launched a 3-pronged approach to mitigate the Pandemic - Protect vulnerable, Predict ahead and Practice online.

Seeking help to expand from 48 to 98 centers.

Protect vulnerable : Elderly, Homeless, Migrant and Healthcare workers

Dakshas currently supports

  • 55 shelters that house elderly, homeless and migrants,
  • 31 shelters in Hyderabad and 24 in Bangalore.
  • Including a total of 546 destitute, bed-ridden elderly that need care-givers.

So Dakshas provides Online Training to care-givers, PPE supply, monitors elderly remote, upgrades precautions near containment zones and informs about local guidelines.

Protect Healthcare Workers: Dakshas Proposes to expand an existing program from 6 to 50 Community Clinics in Hyderabad

  1. PPE for Tertiary Government Referral Hospital's Emergency and Out-patient department in Hyderabad
  2. 6 Community Clinics - Basti Dawakhana's in Hyderabad
  3. Community Health Center in Adibatla Village

Dakshas has also supplied PPE to District Medical Officer suveillance teams, 175 PDs Ration shops and Pain Relief & Palliative Society..

Role of Community Clinics:

As the lockdown eases, the first point of contact of any patient is generally their government community center. There are 73 such centers in Hyderabad, which have four healthcare workers each and see an average of 50-100 patients per day. They see the bulk of cases in primary care and would be the first to contact any cases in the community. They also ensure that healthcare units and hospitals units upstream are not overwhelmed by treating the majority of minor complaints. It is important that they can ensure that their premises are infection free.

Dakshas surveyed 73 of these clinics, out of which 50 have requested support. Dakshas was able to supply 5 such clinics for this week while the survey was being conducted. Over these last four weeks it has developed a well-defined supply chain, which can easily support these 50 Basti Dawakhanas. We seek your help to expand to 50 Community Clinics.

  • 50 "Basti Dawakhana"
  • 4 medical staff per Clinic - doctor, nurse, helper, sanitary worker
  • Avg 50-100 patients a day
  • Approximately 20,000 patients a week

Kit to Protect each Community Clinic: Cost Rs. 7,500/week/clinic

One time: No contact thermometer

Weekly

  • 3ply mask 60
  • Glove 192
  • Sanitizer (500ml) 3
  • Liquid bleach (500ml/11.5%) 5
  • Face Shields 18
  • N95 mask units 24

These clinics see approximately 20,000 to 22,500 patients in a week. And healthcare establishment have been identified as one of the high risk areas for transmission. Therefore securing the government community clinic will ensure that

  1. frontline healthcare workers are protected,
  2. tertiary heatlhcare centers are not over-loaded,
  3. patients continue to receive treatment in their hyper-local area and
  4. infection transmission is broken

This will go a long way to mitigate the peak and nature of the COVID-19 Pandemic
