Story
  • Poverty, gender norms that normalize and justify gender inequality &violence, and lack of skill & information are reasons behind Violence Against Women & Girls (VAWG). Lockdown measures, closure of schools due to Covid-19 pandemic have increased cases of gender violence in addition to the number of challenges like early marriage, trafficking, HIV & lack of education etc. already faced by the adolescents.
  • Adolescence is an age of opportunity for children and a pivotal time for us to build on their development in the first decades of life, to help them navigate risks and vulnerabilities, and to set them on the path to fulfilling their potential. Thus, for well-being & active participation of adolescents are the basis to the effectiveness of life cycle approach that can break exclusion & discrimination, football a popular sport to be a tool that can act wonders as girls get confidence that boosts school retention & bring out leaders who stand up for the rights. 
  • Football for Freedom is a program to demonstrate that change is possible & build a comprehensive strategy to empower the vulnerable adolescent girls in partnership with the community, family, government duty bearers, media to enable adolescent girls to protect their Rights, promote gender equity and prevent violence and claim public space that will result in increased mobility and visibility.
  • Football as tool to empower & build confidence of 250 adolescent girls & violence survivors between 13-19 years to achieve gender & social equity, increase school retention, engage in a positive relationship & build leadership to stop violence in 24 months in two districts in West Bengal and one district in Jharkhand.
  • 30 girls registered as a player with India Football Association
  • Two football teams registered with districts & participating in tournaments
  • 250 girls with high self-esteem acting as role models for other girls and challenge gender norms and violence
  • Sensitized community lending support for girl’s education, recreation and to stop social & gender violence
  • Government acknowledging the process as a replicable model for preventing gender violence and implement in schools & other districts
  • Registered girls’ team will attract sponsor & support to carry forward the torch of empowerment for other girls using sports as a tool
  • Improved government-civil society network model shall create opportunities for such programs for girls in the area
