Formal Education

Vulnerable children found on the streets of Bangalore are deprived of their right to education and have little or no access to the formal education system or other facilities that are required for their holistic growth and development. In this category, majority of them are illiterate and have never been enrolled to school, or have dropped out of the formal education system. The lack of education and other growth related opportunities make street children particularly vulnerable to trafficking, child labour, sexual abuse, and expose to HIV/AIDS and other STIs. Moreover, their protection and education are not sufficiently prioritized by the Government or other responsible local bodies. Hence, BOSCO feels the urgency and the need of providing quality education to such vulnerable children and seeks CSR partnerships for taking the programme forward thereby enhancing the lives of the children who stumble on the streets of Bangalore.

This centre acts as a halfway home to street children below 15 years who are persuaded to come away from the streets. At this centre, boys enjoy maternal/paternal care, affection, concern and true fellowship.Some of the them are referred to other institutions for formal education while others attend training in carpentry, welding, two wheeler repairs, tailoring, electrical and bookbinding. At present there are about 80 boys residing in the centre. Besides, Mane serves as a convalescing centre from 1986 for the sick boys from the areas that require special care.

The reason behind this scenario is that economic instability. BOSCO intends to support these children for their higher education in different trades with the help of well wishers and like minded people who could support these children to pursue the education further.
