Free Coaching and Training on TNPSC Group –II services for the rural poor candidates in Trichy district of Tamil Nadu.

Before we started the project, our staff team did a pilot study in the select 25 villages. The pilot study found that the candidates from poor families in rural areas lack awareness on ongoing competitive exams for the recruitment of various jobs and services from the government sector.

Findings from our field studies and data collected through Base Line Survey (BLS) found to be most relevant to the proposed project.

 They are socially discriminated, educationally deprived and economically very backward.

 Educational status of the parents shows that around 70% of them are illiterate, 20% have studied up to primary/middle level and only 5-10% of the parents are graduates.

 Occupation status shows that one-fourth (25%) of them are working as migrant laborers. 60% of them are working as daily wages from the seasonable works and 10% of them did not have any work and remain unemployed. Remaining 5% of them are working as permanent employees of government or private sectors.

 Most of the (65% ) rural candidates are not aware of the TNPSC and its services.

 The overall educational status of the candidates from these villages is miserably low and most (80%) of the candidates have just completed their school education and then registered with the government employment office and are awaiting for an interview and employment

 Vast majority of the poor candidates from these rural areas are unable to appear for competitive exams because of their economic condition.

 Our study found that the coaching centres which are preparing the candidates for competitive exams like TNPSC, UPSC, and SSC are mostly located in the far away urban locations.

 Also, the career guidance service providers or placement service providers are not available in these villages.

These findings urged us to do the appropriate needful intervention for the skill and knowledge building of the candidates.

The goal of the project is to build the capacity of the rural candidates by providing free coaching and training for TNPSC exams. The actions we shall be taking are:

To create an awareness on TNPSC – Group IV Exams among the rural poor candidates.

 To assess the concepts, attitudes and practices of the rural poor candidates to attend the competitive exams would be conducted by the government.

 To prepare the candidates for the TNPSC Group – IV exams which was scheduled to be held in February 2018.

 To prepare the rural candidates suitable to attend the competitive exams and other related services.

To help them have a better lifestyle through free coaching and expanding the scope for employment services.

The impact shall be the life changing moments for many aspiring and struggling students when they crack the competitive exams and start to earn their livelihood at a decent and formidable level.

The upcoming generation shall guide and provide assistance for the poor and the needy as they have come across the pain of being left alone without much to ponder.
