A Game of Change: Transforming Lives Through Play
In the tribal region of Kotra, Rajasthan, young girls face immense social and economic barriers. Many drop out of school early, are confined by gender-based restrictions, and lack access to sports or extracurricular activities. Often, they are expected to take on household responsibilities at a young age, limiting their opportunities for growth and self-discovery.
Ultimate Frisbee is changing that narrative. A game built on equity, teamwork, and self-regulation, it is empowering these girls with self-awareness, leadership, and resilience—one throw at a time.
Kshamtalaya, in partnership with PlayQuity as our knowledge and training partner, is transforming Kotra into a hub for Ultimate Frisbee. Here, girls are not just learning a sport—they are developing confidence, leadership, and a strong sense of community.
Meet Joshila Kumari – A Leader in the Making
Joshila Kumari, a young changemaker from Kotra, has been playing Ultimate Frisbee for over 3.5 years. Today, she is leading this initiative, training 30 young girls to challenge stereotypes and redefine their futures through sport. Her journey is proof that play can be a powerful tool for transformation, and she is determined to share that power with others.
A Story of Change – Radhika’s Journey
Radhika, a 6th-grade girl from Anjani village, was once hesitant to engage with others. She spoke little and participated in activities only when instructed.
Her Transformation:
Now, Radhika takes the initiative to bring water for her teammates, actively asks questions in indoor sessions, and has even stepped up to lead warm-ups, drills, and game sessions. She ensures equipment is accounted for and responsibly returns it after practice. Her confidence has inspired other girls, fostering a culture of leadership and teamwork. Today, Radhika’s voice is heard and respected, proving that empowerment through play is real and lasting.
