A diamond on the opera scene.
Vaibhavi Singh has an exceptional voice. A very strong and loud voice, ideal for singing opera – which is performed without microphones. And a voice that possesses a rare beauty. Hearing Vaibhavi, we have goosebumps, even if the song is unknown or in a foreign language. So when in 2019, the Neemrana Music Foundation staged Cinderella, though Vaibhavi was only 22 years old and quite inexperienced then, she was given the lead role, and when the Prince Charming fell in love with her, even the audience did too!
We were not the only ones who were mesmerized by Vaibhavi's voice, her talent was acknowledged by everyone, and she soon won a scholarship in 2021, and went to study at the prestigious St. Petersburg State Conservatory N.A Rimsky-Korsakov. Unfortunately, the war in Ukraine broke out, making life very difficult for foreign students. Vaibhavi has the courage and decided to complete her academic year, while many flew back to their country.
Today she has been in India for a year, and the audience in Delhi has been thrilled by her performances: the lead role of Alina in Donizetti's opera at the Italian Cultural Centre, one of the three sopranos in concert at Alliance Française, the Baroness in the opera An Evening in Paris at Kamani Auditorium. But we cannot be selfish and hold Vaibhavi back, she has to be given a chance to compete with the greatest on the international scene.
Vaibhavi applied to the prestigious Conservatory of Perpignan (France) and has been admitted there for higher studies. Meanwhile, she is learning French at Alliance Française Delhi.
Although she has been selected as one of the three Indian scholars sent by the French Embassy to study in France, we need to fundraise money for her Board and Lodging, for the duration of her studies in France. We are certain that her talent will be given the correct direction and enable her to perform in more productions abroad and in India.
Vaibhavi has made a bold choice in embracing the career of an opera singer, let's support her!
“Growing up in Lucknow, Northern India, I didn't have much exposure to Western classical music. However, when I discovered recordings of famous opera singers, I instantly fell in love with the art form. Since then, I had made a conscientious decision to pursue this field with utmost dedication. It also became apparent to me that a career in Western classical music is only possible through good education and unwavering dedication.”
