From Care to Independence: Health Support for Care leavers living with HIV

I am raising funds to support young care leavers living with HIV/AIDS who are trying to rebuild their lives after growing up in child care institutions. Many of these young people turn 18 and are expected to suddenly become independent, but the reality is much harsher. They often leave institutional care without stable financial support, limited job opportunities, and with ongoing health needs that require regular treatment, proper nutrition, and emotional support. Without these essentials, maintaining their health and continuing life-saving treatment becomes extremely difficult.

Through the work of Positive YUVA Network Association, we are supporting these young people by ensuring access to healthcare, nutrition support, and pathways toward self-reliance. A key part of this effort is providing nutrition kits to youth whose CD4 count is below 300, helping them strengthen their immunity and continue their treatment journey with dignity. Alongside this, we guide care leavers toward livelihood opportunities, mentorship, and community support so that they are not left alone while transitioning into adulthood.

This cause is deeply personal to me because I have witnessed how the lack of support after leaving care can push young people into vulnerability and isolation. With the right support at the right time, these young individuals can live healthy, confident, and independent lives.
