Story

From Struggle to Success: Karthika's Journey and How You Can Help

Completing an education in India is impossible for some, with many students unable to complete their schooling due to financial hardship and other barriers. Karthika's story is a testament to how determination and support can overcome these obstacles.

Karthika’s mother, Dhakshayani, spent over 20 years working as a housemaid, never taking a day off, to give her daughter a chance at a better life. In 3rd grade, Karthika's world was turned upside down when her father passed away suddenly. They lived in a small, one-room rented home. Her father had one dream—to see Karthika recognized for her achievements. Karthika promised herself she would make that dream come true.

But, despite her determination, Karthika’s story almost ended after 12th grade. With no money for college, her mother’s dream of seeing her graduate seemed impossible.

That's when a stranger, someone like you, stepped in. Through a fundraiser, Karthika was able to continue her education with a Team Everest scholarship. She didn’t just fulfill her father’s wish; she exceeded it. Karthika graduated with flying colors and received 5 job offers from top companies—Accenture, Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, Capgemini, and Sutherland.

Stories like Karthika's are rare, but they don’t have to be. People like us can change lives by sponsoring the education of children. Since 2016, the Team Everest scholarship has helped over 3,600 students become graduates. In 2024, they aim to sponsor 1,000 more.

I’m fundraising to ensure at least one student doesn’t have to give up their dreams due to financial hardship. These students—parentless, single-parented, and financially disadvantaged—deserve a chance to succeed. Together, let’s change their story forever.

About the Scholarship

Team Everest's "I am the Change" scholarship supports students who are parentless, single-parented, and financially poor, helping them achieve their dream of becoming graduates. To date, they have sponsored the graduation of over 3,600 students.

The cost is Rs 42,000 (Approx. USD 525) per student per year. Most students pursue a 3-year degree, but some require 4 or 5 years of support.

Beyond financial aid, this scholarship provides year-long employability skill training, internships in corporate or startup environments, and job placement guidance in their final year.

Together, we can turn dreams into degrees and create a brighter future for every child, one student at a time.
