From Jodhpur’s Worker Colonies to Collective Change: Support My India Fellow Journey

Hey there, I'm Sahil.

For the past year, I’ve been living and working in the industrial pockets of Jodhpur, Rajasthan, as an India Fellow. My work takes me into steel factories, cramped worker colonies, and dusty workshops where migrant laborers from UP, Bihar, and rural Rajasthan keep this city running.

In these lanes, I’ve met workers who’ve spent decades shaping metal but have no Provident Fund record to show for it. I’ve heard stories of 12-hour shifts, chemical injuries, broken friendships, and quiet resilience. And I’ve tried to document these lives not as numbers, but as people with humor, empathy, and sometimes anger.

This journey has taught me a lot, but I know I need to step back, reflect, and build sharper tools to do this work better. That's why I'm gearing up to be part of the upcoming India Fellow Travel Workshop, a journey designed to challenge, ground, and grow us as social leaders.

What is the India Fellow Travel Workshop?

Think of it as a roving classroom. A space where we:

• Walk with different communities and hear their struggles firsthand
• Learn from senior changemakers who’ve built lifelong movements
• Reflect on our own journeys our biases, blind spots, and motivations.
• Build a deeper, collective understanding of what it means to lead with empathy.

This workshop isn’t just another checkpoint; it’s a critical pause. A chance to absorb, question, and return with deeper clarity and renewed fire.

Why I Need Your Support?

As a cohort of passionate India Fellows, we are collectively working to raise ₹10,00,000 to make the upcoming Travel Workshop possible. This amount will support travel, stay, learning materials, and all logistical arrangements for the entire group.

Individually, I aim to raise ₹100,000 as my contribution toward this shared journey of learning, reflection, and grassroots exploration.
