From Waste to Wonder: Reimagining Darjeeling

Every day, Darjeeling generates more than 40 tons of waste.

In just 108 days, that waste would rise as high as Kanchenjunga (8,586m).

But waste management in the mountains is different. Many homes lie along steep slopes and narrow pathways where regular collection systems simply cannot reach. With no accessible solutions, waste is often burned or dumped into fragile Himalayan ecosystems.

At TIEEDI, we are building a different future.

We have already established a Material Recovery Facility and begun creating livelihoods through paper and cloth upcycling. Now, we want to expand this into a full-fledged Waste Innovation Centre — a clean, dignified, nature-integrated space designed specifically for the Himalayas.

A place where waste is managed responsibly.
