India is a fast-growing country. It is growing fast in its economic stature. A lot of people want to earn money and settle quickly. But in the process, we as humans are missing out on the basics such as taking care of our elderly and giving care to ageing parents. It is sad to state that most of children nowadays are abandoning their elderly and ailing parents on the streets when the responsibility to take care of them becomes a burden.
Homelessness is a major issue in India even today. Close to 18 million elderly in India are homeless. These are people who have been forced to live on the streets because their own families have abandoned them. At a time, when they need utmost love and attention, they’re left to fend for themselves. Hungry and tired, these people can’t even afford to take a bath or wear clean clothes. Maggots crawl over their bodies as these unfortunate souls embrace their death on the streets. It is safe to say that these abandoned people are the MOST IGNORED PART OF SOCIETY and the number is only increasing.
Second Chance Foundation aims to provide another chance at life for the needy, a life steeped in dignity and love by rescuing such people from the streets and providing them with services from LIFE to DEATH.
At the Second Chance home, all their food, living, and medical needs are taken care of, and they are served with love and care by the people (a 30-member team) working there. Today, SCF has three such homes in Hyderabad for the abandoned and needy. With SCF’s care and love, hundreds of helpless souls get a new life in these homes.
With that spirit, we aim to salvage the abandoned who are in distress, dying and destitute, homeless, terminally ill or mentally unsound and seemingly forgotten with no trace of family or support to call their own. To work unceasingly to rehabilitate them and transform them into functional members of society. Using the tools available at our disposal, our endeavour is to ensure we provide them physically with medical aid, nutritious food, clothing, and shelter and emotionally with abundant love and care irrespective of their caste, creed, gender, religion or race. Our mission is to provide them with an opportunity to live a meaningful and dignified life, in good health and happiness.
In the same breath, we advocate and try to spread awareness against abandoning loved ones and promote a message of Love and Peace throughout the world.
Second Chance Foundation is presently running 3 shelter homes and we have rescued more than 1500+ people to date from the streets of Hyderabad. Presently we have around 150 people staying with us across 3 centres in Hyderabad. Every day the foundation makes sure that the 150 elders get their timely meals, medical help and emotional support. We also get a number of calls on a regular basis every day stating that there are more and more people who need to be rescued off the streets. Second Chance Foundation is already making an impact in the lives of 150 people and wants to reach out to more people who are abandoned and seeking help. With the help of this fundraiser, we can reach out to more abandoned people by expanding our services to many more places and making India a Destitute free country.
