Gift a Food Forest

Deforestation has deadly consequences that include global warming, climate change. erratic rainfalls, floods, droughts, soil erosion, landslides, air pollution, depletion of groundwater levels, lack of a sustainable livelihood for farmers leading to debts and suicides, vanishing biodiversity, and many more

ReforestIndia is seeking funds to plant “food forests” for small, marginal farmers.

ReforestIndia has been planting fruits trees and other native trees used for fodder and firewood for farmers in a 100 km radius surrounding Bangalore. Every rupee contributed will assuredly benefit the farmers and the environment because:

A) ReforestIndia is a purely volunteer-run organisation, meaning that we have no fixed overheads like salaries to pay. Every rupee donated goes directly to the farmers.

B)The yardstick to measure the success of any tree planting program is the survival rate of trees. ReforestIndia programs have the highest survival rate because we conduct many checks before deciding whom to support. Only genuine deserving cases are considered. Then we plant the trees ourselves with the help of volunteers and sometimes with willing/enthusiastic sponsors. Above all, the donor can be assured that the trees will be protected and nurtured because the farmers' livelihood/survival depends on the survival of the tree.

These “food forests” help combat ecological and economical issues in one shot. The “food forests” help reduce the effects of global warming by absorbing greenhouse gases. They increase the precipitation and thereby increase rainfall. The trees also recharge groundwater and improve the water table. They also provide a suitable habitat for the local fauna and increase biodiversity.

The most tangible benefit of all is that the farmers get a reliable source of livelihood, thereby freeing them from the recurring cycles of debt and suicides. The farmers get economical security. The future generations get ecological security with fresh air, water and a healthy soil. The fruits of these food forests will be enjoyed by many generations to come, quite literally.
