Gift education to underprivileged children

In India, socio-economic circumstances of a child strongly govern the type of school, education, and quality of life she will live. While enrollment in schools is common, the quality of education being provided is extremely poor, especially in the state of UP. ASER 2014 shows that 71% of class 8 children in UP cannot even read class 2 Hindi textbooks. These precious year spent in school with no learning is a huge loss to these underprivileged children and their families. Every child deserves access to quality education and healthcare to become contributing members of society and live a quality life.

E&H Foundation is enabling quality education for the underprivileged children in UP by researching and partnering with highly successful proven models on the ground and helping them scale up at a very low cost. Currently E&H Foundation has partnered with Gyanshala model that is helping children achieve grade appropriate learning in classes 1-4 at a low cost of ₹5000 per child per year compared to average government cost of ₹12000 per child. E&H Foundation also works to increase community engagement, liaison with the government, run advocacy programmes, as well as facilitate the implementing organisation to become sustainable. It takes only INR 10,000 annually to educate two children, and an annual contribution of 1 Lakh can take care of an entire classroom of 25 children.

Since its inception, E&H Foundation has provided quality education to 13000 children in 3 years for grades 1-4 in 3 districts of UP - Farrukhabad, Kanpur, and Lucknow. Independent studies show that the students have consistently attained grade appropriate learning scoring 100-­‐150% higher marks compared to government school children and almost comparable to India’s best CBSE schools at ₹5000 per child per year, creating scaling up potential. More than 55% students being educated by at such E&H Foundation sponsored classes are young girls, helping bridge the gap between male and female literacy rate.
