Kokilaben, 23 was married at a young age and soon after was expecting her first child. Unfortunately, she was not healthy enough to carry a pregnancy to full term. She had multiple miscarriages, induced abortions and even lost a three- day old child. All this took a toll on her physical and mental health. Due to social pressures, she got pregnant again. The Patient Support Group counseled led her to get treatment at Charutar Arogya Mandal hospital. With inpatient care for over 70 days through her pregnancy and access to blood transfusion at the critical time, she delivered a healthy child. Kokilaben is now enjoying the little joys of motherhood. A little medical help can bring this joy to many women who suffer like Kokilaben.

About The Program

Charutar Arogya Mandal (CAM) works in rural areas of Gujarat helping women with high-risk pregnancies. The villages do not have proper maternal health care and it is difficult for patients to travel to the hospital due to lack of transportation. CAM works with Shree Krishna Hospital to provide quality care for safe deliveries in high-risk pregnancies. The Patient Support Group (PSG) conducts background checks to determine the socioeconomic condition of the patient to ensure that the patients in need are getting the aid. CAM works with both fundraising and monitoring the treatment of the patients. Donations received to this program used towards concessions or waivers given to pregnant women who have to undergo critical care during delivery. Many poverty-stricken women lose their lives not being able to afford the cost of high-risk pregnancies. Help in gifting a woman a safe pregnancy by donating to this program.

About The NGO

Charutar Arogya Mandal targets to provide comprehensive and personalized health care with commitment at an affordable cost to patient's satisfaction. They seek to provide the best medical care to the rural community and facilities for medical education to the people of Anand and Kheda districts with a minimal amount. Several measures have been taken to make health-care affordable for the poor such as free consultation fee for outdoor consultations, free treatment to women and children belonging to BPL family etc. All these measures benefit over 40% of the patients admitted to the hospital and many outdoor patients. What started with a general hospital with 136 beds is now an institution that includes a Medical Council of India recognized as a medical college, a 720-bed hospital, an institute of post-graduate studies, a school of nursing, a college of physiotherapy, an institute of medical technology, a cardiac center and a cancer center. Charutar Arogya Mandal has been conferred with many awards, one of them being the Guidestar India by the Guidestar India Gold Award in 2016. Despite the challenges faced in sustaining the institution, CAM constantly endeavors to innovate and deliver better healthcare to all.
