Girl Empowerment

While there are many facets of women empowerment in the way of economic and policitical empowerment, gender parities, equal opportunities, empowering young and adolescent girls through education is a significant need in that direction. Till today,in many parts of India,it is observed that providing education to girls is an after thought rather than a necessity which poses an enormous challenge towards bringing this parity. Education is that only tool though which girls will be more knowledgeable about their rights and avenues in the society and they will get their eventually.

It is generally told that help them to learn fishing rather providing them with the fishes. Towards that, Rotary Lakeside has decided to launch few projects as below.

• Distribution of bicycles to girls from rural schools
• Support Girl Child Education with focus on special child and differently abled girl children
• Undertake awareness campaigns for all round development including self defence
• Undertake skill training in the areas of computer education and other vocational areas.

In many parts of India , there is only one school catering to the education need of many adjacent villages which is not in the vicinity of any of the villages.A bicycle will cut down the travel time for the girl children giving them a safe travel option to school and the saved time can be devoted to studies. Also the tiring condition due to long walk to and fro will be reduced which will again be beneficial towards studies. The bicycle will come in handy for other household chores and activities for those girls in villages reducing the overall drop out rates as well.

It is worth mentioning that a similar project by West Bengal Government named "Kanyashree" has been lauded all over the world and has been recognized by United Nations as well.

The other projects subsequently taken up will help the identified girls immensely.
