Give 5-Year-Old Girl the Gift of Hearing Again

A spirited and affectionate five-year-old with an infectious smile joined Vipla Foundation’s Special Care Center in 2023. From the beginning, her eagerness to learn and connect with those around her stood out. Diagnosed with hearing impairment at an early age, she received cochlear implants in both ears — a life-changing intervention that allowed her to hear the world for the first time.

With the support of her teachers and therapists, she made remarkable progress. She began to recognize her name, respond to sounds, sing rhymes, and enjoy listening to stories. Each morning, she would greet her teachers with excitement, often trying to repeat new words she had just learned. Her social skills flourished, she became more confident and started forming strong bonds with classmates, engaging in play and learning with enthusiasm.

For a child like her, sound wasn’t just a sense — it was a bridge to the world, to learning, and to belonging.

But everything changed in a single day.

On August 1st, her world fell silent. The external parts of both her cochlear implants — the devices that enable her to hear — were lost during her journey home from school. In a thoughtful attempt to protect them from the rain, she had placed them in a box inside her bag. Tragically, that box went missing.

Since then, she has been unable to hear. Now, she sits quietly in class, confused and withdrawn. The once-chatty and responsive child no longer reacts to her name. She struggles to follow instructions, missing out on daily learning. Her teachers watch her looking around, trying to make sense of what’s happening, unable to understand why the familiar voices and sounds have disappeared.

It’s a heartbreaking pause in what was a beautiful and promising journey.

At this critical age, every day without sound sets her development back. Without the processors, her speech and language skills — so hard-earned over months of therapy — may begin to regress.

But this story doesn’t have to end here.

With your support, we can restore the soundscape she had just begun to explore. We can bring back the laughter, the songs, the stories, and give her the tools she needs to thrive again.

We are urgently raising ₹7,30,800 to purchase a new pair of external processors for both of her cochlear implants. A single pair originally cost ₹3,65,400 per ear, and both were lost, leaving her in complete silence.
