We believe that it is important to inculcate a strong sense of discipline amongst our students, especially considering the troubled backgrounds and communities they come from. At the same time, we strongly believe that school should not be a burden on children. Instead, it should be a place they are keen to go to, where they can enjoy themselves and feel loved and welcome.
In addition to creating a positive environment where children are happy, RWC also believes that it is important to develop a keenness for learning amongst our students, and impart an education which has practical applications. Along with opportunities for interactive and stimulating learning, RWC also promotes co-curricular activities for a more holistic education.
RWC currently has 186 students enrolled between Pre-Nursery and 5th Standard. Classes have an attendance of 90% to 95%, compared to the Indian government-school average of ~83%*. An English-medium environment with a good infrastructure, and the possibility of a good future education are the primary motivations for parents seeking admission for their children in RWC. The school has a total of 8 classrooms, one for each of the standards taught. Each class has enough space for up to 36 student, and the average class strength is of 25. All classrooms have desks and chairs for students, and have ample light and ventilation along with ceiling fans to ensure student comfort.
The centre also has the following facilities:
o Library: A bright and happy space where children can come to read
o Computer Centre: A space for children to learn about and use computers
o Sewing Centre: A training space where students’ mothers can learn sewing and tailoring as a vocation, and subsequently use it as a workspace
Students receive lunch from the school at no-cost, an initiative supported by one of our donors.
Education
Through our dedicated efforts on education, the average score for the 5th grade was 74%. All students successfully graduated from the 5th grade.
o 6 students were admitted to Balvantray under the ‘Create a Future’ program
o 7 students were admitted to government schools
o 4 students were admitted to other private schools
The school also undertakes the following activities:
Taekwondo: The school conducts Taekwondo classes every Saturday for students so that they can learn self-defence.
Mahila Samiti: RWC recently re-started it’s ‘Mahila Samiti’ (translation: Women’s Committee) initiative.
o The initiative is meant to raise awareness on issues of social concern and provide a forum for support
o The school held a session on oral hygiene, as well a campaign called “Nahin means No” (Translation: No means No) on gender based violence
Alumni Support: RWC offers remedial classes as well as a space for sharing and socio-emotional support, if required.
