We are there. Need you too!
India remains one of the most disaster-prone regions in the world—facing recurring floods, cyclones, droughts, and earthquakes. Alongside these visible crises, slower and often overlooked disasters—seasonal displacement, harsh winters, and extreme heatwaves—continue to erode lives and livelihoods. With changing climate patterns and increasing human-induced vulnerabilities, the frequency and intensity of these events are rising, leaving communities with little time or resources to recover.
Yet, many disasters remain invisible—unnoticed unless they make headlines. Regions facing recurring devastation, such as annual floods or prolonged droughts, often struggle without sustained attention or support.
Goonj’s SARRD (Societal Alliance for Resilience and Response to Disasters) initiative responds to this urgent reality—combining immediate relief with long-term, community-led rehabilitation to build resilience where it is needed most.
30000000 to be mobilized for kit preparation and outreach. Each disaster (RAHAT) Kit is prepared at a cost of 1200, and participation in this effort can be made in multiples of disaster Kits
25,000 families to be supported across India
1,25,000 individuals to receive immediate relief
Dual focus: Emergency response + Long-term resilience
The Challenge
Increasing frequency and intensity of disasters due to climate change
Recurring crises with limited visibility and support
Lack of immediate essentials during emergencies
Minimal focus on long-term recovery and resilience
Our Two-Phase Response
Phase 1: Immediate Relief
Rapid response through distribution of essential kits, including:
Clothing and basic daily-wear essentials
Hygiene materials and toiletries
Dry ration for immediate sustenance
Phase 2: Rehabilitation & Resilience
Moving beyond relief, Goonj enables:
Community-led rebuilding of local infrastructure
Restoration of water bodies, land, and shared spaces
Strengthening of local capacities for future disaster preparedness
Dignified, participatory recovery processes
What Goes into a Disaster (RAHAT) Kit?
Each kit is thoughtfully curated to support both education and well-being:
Essential clothes
Toiletries/sanitary items
Footwear
Blankets
Other need-based items (e.g, tarpaulins, utensils, bucket, mugs, mosquito nets, solar lights)
Why This Matters?
Disasters do not end when the waters recede or the headlines fade. For affected communities, recovery is long, complex, and often unsupported. Immediate relief is critical—but it is sustained, community-led rebuilding that restores dignity and resilience.
Call to Action
Act now. Every contribution makes a difference. Because in times of crisis, timely support doesn’t just provide relief— it rebuilds lives, restores dignity, and strengthens communities for the future.
