Story

We know that students from families with financial difficulties may not concentrate on their studies and so we wanted to be their second set of parents who can support them when they need us the most. We provide not just financial support but also love and moral support. We mentor them, we guide them and we stand by them when they face any failures.

And we saw many children going to bed with empty stomachs and many children who could not get 3 meals a day. A child with an empty stomach feels hard to concentrate on studies. This vicious cycle of financial poverty leading to illiteracy which in turn feeds into poverty is pushing many such families into eternal poverty.

We believe the right education at the right time is the best way to fight all the problems such families face. One graduate, one job holder in a family can change the script of that familiy for many generations ahead.

We would like to share the happy news that our Gurukul Home for the children from less privileged families is open now. The home is built with a capacity to host 50 such children. Gurukul Home is one such place where we take the utmost case of those children just as we take care of our own offspring. We provide them –

  • school admission in the nearby school,
  • provide them food and nutrition,
  • safe shelter,
  • health monitoring,
  • sports training especially in athletics,
  • mentoring support until they are settled in their careers.

We have established kitchen and a cook to cook healthy food for the children. Further, A warden and his family will always provide them parental care.

Under our mentorship, in our V25 Learning Center located in the same village, 50+ other students have been so far provided with post and pre school tutoring, life skills, access to hundreds of variety of books, visits to educational and recreational

places, participation in science exhibitions etc. Under our mentorship, students have –

  • Planted and taking care of more than 3000 saplings
  • Been Performing comparatively well in academics compared to their friends in the schools
  • Read 300+ books provided to them in our library
  • Gained access to computers and digital equipment like laptops, projectors etc.,
  • Got crafts training and developed the skill of making various crafts on their own.
  • Got a dedicated sports coach to train them in athletics and are actually performing much better than other students of at least 15 different schools in the district. Few students bagged state gold, silver multiple times and 2 students bagged national medals as well.

We have already 22 students with us in Gurukul Home now and 14 students who have completed their stint in Gurukul and pursuing their higher studies, majority of whom have either single parent or no parent at all. Of those, who are having both the parents, either they are divorced/living separate due to various reasons or either one or both the parents are facing severe illness/bedridden.

I hope you know that it is not an easy task to manage 36 children when it is difficult for many of us to even manage 1 or 2 kids of ours. It is difficult to manage them physically as well as financially.

Physically it would be difficult to manage such a huge chunk of children without the help of more care takers. We need to have more staff so as to keep monitoring and give sufficient time to listen to each of the kids.

Further, financially it would be not so easy without the support of friends and supporters like you. With the current level prices of vegetables, oil and dal, it is roughly costing us around Rs. 1500/- per month per kid to provide them with food and shelter. Rs. 1500/- may be a movie outing with a pop corn tub for many of us or may be a restaurant bill for some others. But its minimum food and safe shelter for our kids.

A group of 50+ children and their families are positively impacted. The child gets all they needed at their age. We can stop such children from getting into child labour. Every educated and well-groomed one is an asset to the nation. They are the future of India.

Note - Please check the UPDATES Tab for the performance of our children in sports.
