Shyam Lal is 72 years old. He lives alone in a small village in the hills of Himachal Pradesh. His son works as a daily-wage labourer in Chandigarh and sends whatever little he can. For the past three years, Shyam Lal has been suffering from severe knee pain and a frozen shoulder — conditions that physiotherapy could easily treat. But a single physiotherapy session costs ₹400–₹800. For Shyam Lal, that's nearly a week's worth of food. So he chose hunger over pain — and pain over burdening his son."I used to be able to climb the hill behind my house every morning. Now I can't even walk to the door without holding the wall. I didn't tell my son. He has enough problems of his own."
— Shyam Lal, 72, Village Neri, Himachal Pradesh
Shyam Lal is not alone. Across the mountains of Himachal Pradesh, thousands of elderly men and women are living through the same invisible suffering — joint pain, paralysis recovery, spine disorders, and chronic illness — with no access to basic medical care. No physiotherapist. No pathology lab. No doctor within reach. Just silence. The Shree Ji Foundation is opening a FREE healthcare centre — so that no elder ever has to choose between pain and poverty again.
