From survival to recovery — help families rebuild after the floods
The devastating floods in Assam have left families struggling to rebuild their homes, restore their livelihoods and protect their children.
Oasis India is launching a 12-month Relief, Rehabilitation, Recovery, Restoration and Rebuilding (5Rs) programme to support 500 flood-affected families, approximately 2,500 people, including 500 children and 500 girls across six villages in Sivasagar and Charaideo districts of Assam.
For families who have lost essential household belongings, damaged homes, agricultural income and daily wages, immediate relief is only the beginning. They need support to recover with dignity and become better prepared for future disasters.
1. Immediate Relief
During the first three months, we will provide:
These interventions are designed to address critical food, WASH, health and dignity needs following the floods.
2. Rehabilitate Homes
Floods have damaged homes and destroyed essential bedding and household items.
We will support 500 families with shelter repairs and bedding materials, helping families return to safer living conditions.
3. Restore Livelihoods
Many families have lost agricultural production and income because of the floods.
The programme will provide livelihood and agriculture support, including income-generating assets, agricultural inputs, training and linkages with government livelihood schemes and financial institutions.
4. Build Resilience
Recovery should not end when the water recedes.
Oasis India will work with communities on disaster preparedness, risk reduction and climate resilience, while strengthening village-level structures so communities are better prepared for future floods.
Months 1–3: Immediate relief, food, WASH, dignity, household supplies, healthcare and awareness.
Months 4–6: Shelter assessments and repairs, bedding distribution, livelihood training and disaster preparedness activities.
Months 7–9: Completion of house repairs, livelihood asset distribution and market linkages.
Months 10–12: Further livelihood support, endline assessment, community handover and documentation of impact.

Oasis India continues to provide immediate relief support to flood-affected families in Sivasagar and surrounding communities. As of 18 August 2026, four rounds of relief distribution have been completed, reaching families with essential food, hygiene, and household items.
The first distribution took place at Maut Gaon (Railway Station), where 150 families received food and essential supplies, along with hygiene kits. During the second distribution at Ailamukh, Sivasagar, 30 families received 30 mattresses, 60 blankets, 60 mugs, and 60 buckets.
The third distribution was carried out in Maut Gaon, Sivasagar, where 50 mattresses were provided to elderly people aged 60 and above, benefiting 50 individuals. In addition, 100 families received 200 blankets, 200 mugs, and 200 buckets. During the fourth distribution at 2 No. Konwar Gaon, Betbari, Sivasagar, families received 20 mattresses, 40 blankets, 40 mugs, and 40 buckets.
Overall, across these four distributions, Oasis India has provided food and essential supplies to 150 families, hygiene kits to 150 families, 100 mattresses to affected families and elderly people, and a total of 300 blankets, 300 buckets, and 300 mugs. The distributions have prioritised severely affected communities, with particular attention given to elderly and vulnerable people.
In addition to the immediate relief response, Oasis India is planning to support longer-term recovery by providing 100 School Kits to students affected by the devastating Assam floods, helping children return to school with essential learning materials. We are also planning Phase 1 of 10 Elevated Flood-Resilient Shelter Homes, providing safer and more resilient homes for families whose houses have been severely damaged or destroyed by the floods.
We remain committed to standing alongside flood-affected families as they move from immediate relief towards recovery and rebuilding. The response is ongoing, and further distributions and recovery interventions will be undertaken based on needs identified through field assessments and the availability of resources.
