They live a life worse than even animals”, says Akhand Pratap Singh, founder of Unique Welfare Foundation an NGO that has been working to support the education, therapy, and care of kids with disabilities.

Abused, neglected and trapped due to disabilities
“Owing to constant abuse, gradually the mental health of the child deteriorates even further. The child's life becomes worse than hell. I feel their fate becomes even worse than death because they are just incapable of bearing this extent of torture,” says the NGO founder while explaining the plight of kids with disabilities.
According to Akhand Pratap, “There are many parents who want to care for their child and give them therapy and treatment, but they are just incapable. Owing to poverty they just see their child suffer in helplessness”.

UWF started the project in 2018 and since then has changed the lives of over 700 kids. provides children with various therapies including physiotherapy, which is essential to help them function independently. The school also provides the children with specialised educational support and nutritious meals to help them develop into healthy and functional adults.
But sadly the biggest challenge for UWF and other NGOs working for kids with disabilities is the shortage of funds to support their efforts. “At the time there are 300 children who need to be enrolled urgently but strapped for resources we cannot admit these children”, Akhand Pratap says.

Children with intellectual or physical disabilities need our undivided attention and care. However, children with disabilities from underprivileged backgrounds remain neglected, shunned, and ignored without any fault of their own.
The Unique Welfare Foundation is a beacon of hope in the lives of children with disabilities, offering education, livelihood, and rehabilitation facilities.
During FY 2025-26, with the support of our generous donors we were able to carry out the following activities:
- Provided special education services to 40 children with disabilities.
- Strengthened access to essential therapy treatments like physiotherapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy.
- Regular dietary support for 40 children, leading to significant improvements in their overall health.
- Built a functional computer lab and conducted regular training sessions for children.
- Regular health check-ups and essential medical support for children with disabilities from low-income families.

All children deserve an education. But innumerable children with disabilities face severe neglect and remain excluded from the opportunity to learn.
Mr. Pratap from the Unique Welfare Foundation (UWF) recognized this glaring injustice against so many children that suffer through no fault of their own. Here is what he has done to further UWF's cause in the period April '25 - September '25:
- Educational support provided to 40 differently abled students through regular learning sessions at the center.
- 20 physiotherapy and speech therapy sessions organized to support children with physical and communication challenges.
- Transportation facility arranged for daily pickup and drop of students from nearby villages to the center.
- Necessary & essential equipment were distributed to the students.
- Regular nutrition and food support provided to all enrolled students, ensuring balanced meals during center hours.
- Classroom furniture and learning environment upgraded
