Help Animals in Assam Floods

The past few days have been critical as our team provides essential veterinary care and emergency relief to more than 5,000 flood-affected animals. Assam is facing its worst floods in nearly 60 years, with 264 villages underwater and over 1.5 million animals severely impacted. We are doing everything we can to ensure animals—and the people who depend on them—receive urgent support.

In Sivasagar district, Humane World for Animals India, alongside local partner Just Be Friendly (JBF) and the state veterinary department, has delivered critical veterinary care, medicines, heavy-duty tarpaulins, and emergency feed to vulnerable animals—including cattle, dogs, and poultry — across the hardest-hit areas like Gaurisagar and Nazira.

With grazing lands submerged and fodder destroyed, animals face severe malnutrition, dehydration, skin infections, and injuries. Families living near flooded homes to protect their livestock are struggling with critical feed shortages, leaving animals with less than half their daily nutritional needs. Our emergency team has seen starving dogs devour food within seconds and cattle standing in contaminated water with no dry land nearby. Without urgent intervention, animals and their families have little chance of surviving and recovering from this catastrophe.

Our next priority is to continue treatment, disease monitoring, nutrition and hydration support, temporary shelter assistance, and follow-up care for weak or injured animals. We will not leave them behind—that is our promise.
