After losing her four sons and husband, Yallamma, 66, was left with no one to take care of her. Her daughter, grandchildren, and others refused to shelter her, and she was forced to live on the streets. However, a chance encounter with M Aruna of Priyadarshini Seva Mandali changed Yallamma’s life. As one of the NGO's residents, she hopes to spend her remaining years in a loving environment where she is provided with free food, shelter, and medical care.
For over 100 residents, Priyadarshini’s ‘Nest Home’ is the only home, and Aruna cannot continue to support them without your help.

Priyadarshini’s ‘Nest Home’
Aruna has been running the ‘Nest Home’ for the abandoned elderly for a little over three decades now, having cared for hundreds of people. While Aruna somehow managed funds all these years, it has been an uphill task for the last two years.
Aruna says that she cannot bear the cost of taking care of over 100 elderly citizens which comes to around ₹7 lakh per month.
Most of the elderly who are brought to Priyadarshini are ailing or disabled and rescued from the streets, just like Yallamma. “We do everything from providing them with immediate medical care to counselling, along with other facilities. In some cases, we have encountered cancer patients whose families abandoned them. We try our best to provide the care that such people need. It may even involve prolonged time in hospitals. All this costs a lot of money. Our residents have been rescued from a helpless state. We cannot be heartless like the ones who abandoned them,” Aruna says.
At ‘Nest Home’, residents are provided with a nutritious breakfast, lunch, and dinner and have access to an in-house doctor and medical facilities for their healthcare needs.
Without the support and care of Priyadarshini many of the beneficiaries at the ‘Nest Home’ would have spent their old age hungry and homeless. Aruna has given them a new life and hopes for their golden years.
How your donations will help
When you donate, you are helping Aruna to provide abandoned senior citizens with a comfortable and safe living environment. Priydarshini’s dedicated staff ensure that all residents are well-cared for, with free accommodation, medical expenses, and meals.
Priyadarshini runs four homes at different locations with around 20-25 residents, with a minimum age requirement of 60. The NGO seeks to build a new facility with your donations to house all the residents in one place. Aruna says that this way, they can save over ₹2 lakh on rent alone.” If everything goes fine, we can accommodate more abandoned elderly,” Aruna adds.
By donating to Priyadarshini, you will be making it possible for senior citizens to live their golden years with dignity and security, with access to three meals daily. Your contribution will have a great impact on the lives of those who are most in need.
Recent years have been tough for Aruna. She admits that her NGO will not be able to continue the service she has been doing for over 30 years without urgent funds.

Mrs. Lakshmi Bai, aged 63, is an illiterate woman. She was married to Mr. Venkatesham, a white-washer and painter by profession, while she worked as a housemaid in several homes. They lived together in the Chikkadapalli locality in Hyderabad and had two daughters, both of whom died at an early age due to severe health issues.
A decade ago, Lakshmi Bai lost her husband, and due to financial constraints, her sister performed all the funeral rites as she had no money for them. After her husband's death, she lived alone and worked as a housemaid for some years. However, her health deteriorated, preventing her from continuing to work, which led to her employers letting her go. She found herself with no money, food, or shelter, and her health worsened.
A compassionate individual admitted her to our NEST HOME in a very weak condition. Within a month, she regained her health and began living with other residents. Now, she is very happy, thanks to NEST HOME and its management.
