Help avoid blindness!

India bears around 20% of the world’s blind population. The challenge of eliminating avoidable blindness in elderly persons is becoming even harder than ever before. They are prone to develop cataract and other age-related ocular morbidities like diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, low vision etc.

Blindness brings profound socio-economic disadvantages to individuals, their families and societies. Eye-related issues hampers performance at education, reduces employability, productivity and in general, impairs the quality of life, which has a direct impact on the economic health of the nation.

Our eyesight is one of the most important senses: 80% of what we perceive comes through our sense of sight. By protecting our eyes, we will be able to reduce the odds of blindness and vision loss while also staying on top of any developing eye diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma etc

LEPRA Society is recognised as an active partner in the National Programme for Control of Blindness (NPCB) and also a member of VISION 2020 forum in India.

Our key strength is the fact that we are present in hard-to-reach areas focussing on providing impactful interventions to some of the most vulnerable communities. In addition, our vision centres and eye care hospitals are located in endemic areas with a high prevalence rate of cataracts and related blindness.

We offer comprehensive eye related services at our own eye-care hospitals in Western Odisha – 1) Mahanadi Netra Chikitsalaya (MNC) in Sonepur, Subarnapur district 2) Junagarh Netra Chikitsalaya (JNC) in Junagarh, Kalahandi district.

Through this campaign, we hope to provide timely cataract surgeries to address the issue of avoidable blindness. We facilitate and support our beneficiaries’ right from generating eye health awareness, basic eye screening & referrals, cataract surgery process, transportation for the surgery, providing spectacles and post-operative management etc. until our beneficiary is fine after the surgery.
