Help Chandra save third son from rare heart disease that killed her first 2. Donate urgently

Campaign by GiveIndia

Story

“The first time I noticed it, it sent shivers down my spine. I prayed hard but my deepest fears came true... my 12-year-old son was showing similar symptoms of the disease that once took away the life of my first two children. Now, it has come back to take away my only child left and I’m running helplessly... pillar to post to save him from the clutches of death,” says Chandra, Ramajayam’s mother.

Illness that haunts

12-year-old Ramajayam has the same illness that killed his two older brothers. He has been diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, in which the heart muscle becomes abnormally thick, making it hard for the heart to pump blood - eventually leading to organ failure and death. Ram’s only way to survive is an urgent heart transplant worth ₹75 lakh which his poor mother cannot afford.

A few years back, when Ram’s stomach started swelling, I knew something bad was going to hit us. Within days he became weak and even started experiencing pain while urinating. Memories of what happened to two of Ram’s siblings came flashing back while my husband and I rushed him to the hospital. My whole world crumbled when we knew he was diagnosed with a failing heart that is slowly damaging his liver and kidney” - Chandra

Heart transplant gives hope

The couple couldn’t save their first two sons as they didn’t have enough money to afford their surgery. But they are determined to save Ram at any cost. They took him to multiple hospitals in three different states, spent around ₹2 lakh, and even tried inserting a pacemaker - but unfortunately, nothing worked.

Chandra says: “We have spent four years treating him. We sold every little valuable we had and borrowed more than what we can return. While we were about to lose hope the doctors in MGM hospital said our son will survive if we get him a heart transplant. But my husband didn’t agree...he kept blaming me saying all the kids I gave birth to have this ailment and he cannot afford to keep treating them...one day he abandoned us in the hospital.”

Mother’s lone struggle

From then, it has been only misery for Chandra and Ramajayam. Chandra, who worked as a daily wager in her village, had to leave her job to look after him. With no money even to buy his daily medicines, the poor mother is struggling to save her only son.

I don’t know how I’m going to afford 75 lakh...the price of my son’s life. With no money left, with no one to support us, I’m fighting a lone battle to save my son. I can’t abandon or leave him to die as his father did. He needs me and he’s the only reason I’m staying alive. Please help me in this battle...don’t let death pluck away my only son,” Chandra pleads.

This poor mother is in desperate need of your help. There is no one she can turn to in her time of need to save her son. Without your support, Chandra will likely lose her only child to the heart disease that threatens his life. Help Ramajayam get a heart transplant at the earliest. Donate to save him.
