The word “education” is derived from the Latin word “ēducāre” which literally stands for “to draw out from within”. A school must be able to provide a conducive learning environment for this to happen and the teachers must adopt a process of facilitation to allow the students to “draw out” the knowledge and wisdom that is already latent within themselves. Successful teachers are those that have the ability to maximise the learning potential of all students in their class. Developing positive relationships between a teacher and student is a fundamental aspect of quality teaching and student learning.
Teachers are devoted to making a positive change in students’ lives, but they are often not well prepared for the social and emotional demands of today’s classroom environment and students' learning needs. Most teachers' training courses focus on pedagogy and content without addressing the social, emotional, cognitive demands of teaching. If incorporated into teacher training, these can have a significant impact on the ability of teachers.
It is a well-known saying that “Our Children are our Future”. The result-oriented, examination-based education system puts a lot of pressure on students to focus only on academic results, leading to a stressful life. While students develop well and become subject-matter experts, most of them lack the basic life skills. There is little time to focus on values and morals. A slow downfall in the moral standards of today’s youth is quite visible in our current society.
During the last 70 years, there have been many scientific and medical studies which show that both relaxation and meditation have a significant impact on emotional / social intelligence, overall well-being/brain development, and hence a heightened learning ability in children. One recent reference that summarizes many of the key studies is “The Science of Meditation” by Daniel Goleman and Richard Davidson who are key researchers in this field of mind-body medicine.
The HEART (Heartfulness Education and Resources for Teachers) program for teachers is a year-long training program designed to develop emotional and social intelligence, manage emotional well-being, and create a systematic approach to wise decision-making. Our training program covers various methodologies of heart-centered learning and teaching, and essential life-skills to sharpen teaching skills. These skills and methodologies equip teachers to create a ‘Compassionate Learning Environment’ in their classrooms.
We also offer “The Heartfulness Way(THW) – Curriculum” for students which is based on nine United Nation values. These values are woven into a spiral curriculum for students from grades 1 – 9. Teachers, with the help of the HEART training program and THW Curriculum, will facilitate the transformation of students from human beings to “being humans”.
In the course of the year-long training, teachers begin to develop profound soft skills of deep listening, non-prejudiced observation, compassionate leadership, and empathetic understanding. As teachers and students work through the various lesson plans of the THW Curriculum, the values they imbibe intensely influence the quality of the relationship between the student and teacher, bridging the gap between the two.
"Centered Teachers” who are equipped with skills to create an enabling environment in the classroom, which in turn positively impacts student retention and engagement.
Improvement in focus and concentration levels in students.
Students display qualities like compassion, love and mutual-respect for each other.
A life where stress is well managed, leading to joyful and happy students, allowing for academic and extra-curricular goals to be achieved.
